Next club day: 19 October – TBC
Hi all, well there was about a half doz of us get off the beach outside Gary & Corina’s place on Saturday a.m. Thomas, GT, Greg, Blair, Richard, myself. Certainly quite breezy for a while but things settled down around bite time of 0930hrs. The bite did not last long but some good fish were caught with Greg Burnett (ya’all know Greg he’s the one with the funny accent) catching some very good snapper best at 53cm see attached pic, NB most of Greg’s fish were caught on a soft bait. Blair Simonsen did well again with a good number of snapper and taking out 3 prize sections, ie. kahawai, gurnard and trevally (ya’all know Blair he’s the one that catches lots of fish usually gurnard). Staying with Blair he almost capsized when he had his reel drag set too tight as he got a big bite by a big fish (that got off) but pulled his kayak almost over as the reel had not much give in the drag, close one! then he changed tack and thought he would try for the “Grand Slam” as he had snapper, trevally, gurnard and kahawai so he went looking for kingfish to seal the deal went trolling out towards Whakari…. but no luck.
Oh and big ups to Gary hosting the club day at short notice and Corina who baked a lovely bacon & egg pie for the competitors + a beer if you wanted.
Jeff
